Fed: Aust should continue to outgrow other economies: Costello

CANBERRA, April 22 AAP - Australia's economy would continue to grow faster than many
other developed nations if policy remained on track, Treasurer Peter Costello said today.

The latest economic report card from the International Monetary Fund said the outlook
for global growth was among the rosiest in 10 years, and Australia's prospects remained
strong.

"The Australian economy is continuing to grow, it's been one of the strongest growing
economies of the developed world over the last eight years," Mr Costello told reporters
in Melbourne.

"It's not without its challenges -- we've had drought, we've had the Asian financial
crisis -- but provided we can keep good economic policy going, I believe that Australia
can continue to lead many of the developed countries of the world."
